Blender 64 !

April 1st, 2010

After several months of hard work adapting the Blender source code low level routines, we have accomplished something seemingly impossible: a port of Blender for the good old Commodore 64 written in 6502 chip assembler language

Our first tests were carried out using the well known VICE emulator, but the crucial experiment was done in a Drean C-64 that was still in use at a laboratory in Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica.

C64’s original VIC 20 graphic chipset does not allow reasonable screen resolutions and for that reason we had to adapt an old VGA card using a custom made interface. Soon more details.

Painting by the sea.

March 27th, 2010

This is a quick sketch I painted from the balcony at the house we rented for our holidays in Las Grutas, provincia de Río Negro, Argentina (in the middle of Patagonia).

It was a rainy day but at the time I painted this, the storm was vanishing and raining stopped. Unable to leave the house all I could do was painting :)

The feeling of painting in the screen the colours I was actually watching was a rush !

I painted this in Gimp.

Painting for Mercator

March 27th, 2010

I started this image as a quick sketch for the characters of my short movie project Mercator Project and then I got excited and kept painting adding detailes. Now I feel it gained the right to join the gallery :)

I painted it part in MyPaint and other bit in Gimp using the wonderful brush set of Gimp Paint Studio.

Criticism and comments are welcome :)

My review on Plumiferos

February 17th, 2010

After watching the movie in a theater, surrounded by my all-time friends, colleagues and family, and close enough to the screen (maybe too close) I could summarize my experience in one sentence: “I thought it was going to be worse”.

Original story after all these comings and goings changed a lot but still the movie is quite entertaining. Sound work had many highlights and just a few downsides (to my liking anyway). It highlights the image and reinforces comedy punch lines. Music is painfully missing in a couple shots, which turns down a bit the rhythm, but generally speaking is OK, specially the couple songs performed by argentine rock band Smitten. The band choice was one good decision from producers.

About the image… well. Here I’m going to elaborate further as you might expect. 80% or so is acceptable, there is only around a 20% of it that has technical issues which ironically enough, could have been easily fixed… if they had allowed the right people to do what it had to be done.
